A Tragic Tale For Moore, A Preventative Warning For the Rest of Us

January 17, 2025, will mark the 8th anniversary of Mary Tyler Moore’s tragic death from cardiopulmonary arrest. The iconic actress suffered several physical challenges in her later years, including the extensive effects of diabetes, which she struggled with for decades.
That main health issue, however, was exacerbated by her issues with alcoholism, while it didn’t help matters that she had extensive selective plastic surgery throughout the decades.
Surgery of any kind, be it life-saving, necessary, or emergency, places a significant amount of trauma on the given individual’s physical well-being. An individual’s immune system, compromised by alcoholism or any form of substance abuse, or a disease, such as diabetes, may worsen as a result.
Elective surgery, such as aesthetic plastic surgery, be it for the face, the teeth, the body, etc, as opposed to necessary reconstructive surgery after a horrific accident of some sort, is not always recommended by medical professionals; particularly for someone with substance abuse issues or a disease like diabetes.
To reiterate, alcoholism and diabetes are a challenging combination on their own, and elective surgery in any form may only sometimes make things worse.
Such may have been the case with Mary Tyler Moore, who chose through the years to have extensive plastic surgery on her nose and cheekbones while having several teeth implants.
One can’t help but wonder if she might have lived longer had she not chosen to alter her original face, including her adorable ‘chipmunk cheeks,’ which, for millions of her fans, was just fine.
