RETRO ACTIVE TELEVISION - Book of the Year - One Year Later
"An In-Depth Perspective on Classic TV's Social Circuitry" by Herbie J Pilato
One year later, I still very much appreciate the honor of having the Los Angeles Book Festival named my book, RETRO ACTIVE TELEVISION, "Book of the Year," and my subsequent selection as "Author of the Year." Forever grateful.
See below for a detailed look back.
RETRO ACTIVE TELEVISION: AN IN-DEPTH PERSPECTIVE ON CLASSIC TV’S SOCIAL SECURITY (Headline Books) by Herbie J Pilato is the winner of the 2023 Los Angeles Book Festival, which honors the best of the world publishing community.
RETRO ACTIVE TELEVISION (which is now available in audiobook form) was named “Book of the Year,” and Pilato was named “Author of the Year.”
As Bruce Haring, representative of the Los Angeles Book Festival notes, RETRO ACTIVE TELEVISION “…explores the world of classic television, showing us what the programmers were thinking in the creative and programming process. Written by an author whose knowledge of popular culture is among the world’s finest, the book offers fresh insight into some of television’s favorites. For fans of the medium, it’s a journey that enlightens and entertains.”
With a Foreword by actor Eric Scott of The Waltons, RETRO ACTIVE TELEVISION features exclusive commentary and insight from esteemed TV actors including actors like the Emmy-winning Michael Learned (also of The Waltons), and Peter Mark Richman (The Twilight Zone, The Fugitive), and acclaimed writer/producers Ed Spielman (the Emmy-winning creator of the original Kung Fu TV series), and Larry Brody (The Streets of San Francisco, Barnaby Jones), who calls RETRO ACTIVE TELEVISION, “A must-read!”
Marc Wade of the Television Academy and Emmys.com, adds, “Herbie J Pilato brings his expertise to bear with this extensive analysis of television’s effect and reflection on our culture; a book that connects the dots between the medium’s origins and milestones, between the past and the present…and how we can utilize it productively…for the future.”
